You must complete mostÌýof your degree at 91ÇÑ×Ó. If you have reached the maximum credit limit from prior study at another institution, you will not be permitted to undertake a semester‑based exchange.

If you have reached the maximum credit limit and have not previously completed an exchange or short‑term experience, you may be permitted to complete one short‑term program for up to 2 units of credit.

To receive credit for Short‑term Global Experiences (virtual or in person):

• You must apply through UQ Global Experiences (GEx) before the application deadlines.
• Credit will only be granted if:
  • the experience is pre‑approved by both GEx and BEL
  • you submit an official academic transcript following successful completion.

We strongly advise that you do not take core or accreditation‑required courses while participating in an exchange or short-term global experience, as this may affect eligibility for professional accreditation in Australia.

This is particularly important for students in:

• Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting major
• Bachelor of Advanced Business (Honours) – Accounting major.

We recommend checking requirements with the relevant professional accreditation body.

If you're a postgraduate student interested in studying abroad, contact the BEL International Mobility Manager to discuss your options as:

• many postgraduate programs are not suitable for semester exchange due to curriculum and timing constraints
• not allÌýpartner universities accept coursework master's students.

Short-term global experiencesÌýare often a more suitable option.

Graduate certificate

• Semester-based exchange is not available.
• Graduate Certificate of Business Administration students may undertake a short-term global experience equivalent to one course only — see Business School eligibility variations.

Graduate diploma

• Semester-based exchange is not available.
• Graduate Diploma of Business Administration students may undertake short-term experiencesÌý— see Business School eligibility variations.

• Only the Business Management part of your program can be used for exchange.
• A semester-long exchange will extend your degree by at leastÌýone extra semester due to the sequencing of Education courses—you must finish all Business Management courses and core secondary education courses before starting your professional year in Semester 1.

Semester-based exchange

You can apply if you:

• have completed (or are about to complete) at least 4 UQ units by the end of the semester of application.

Short-term Global ExperienceÌý

You can apply if you:

• are enrolled in
  • MasterÌýof Business Administration
  • Graduate Certificate of Business Administration or
  • Graduate Diploma of Business Administration
• have completed at least 2 UQ units as indicated on your UQ studies reportÌý at the time of application to GEx
  • If doing the program in accelerated full-time study mode, you need a letter from the Business School instead.

You do not need to be enrolled at 91ÇÑ×Ó in the semester of application to GEx.

Final approval is at the host university's discretion and they may require a detailed academic background check.

2017 – 2020 commencing studentsÌý

If you started your LLB (Hons) program (single or dual) between 2017 and 2020, you must complete:

• all level 1 and level 2 Part A LAWS courses before applying for a UQ-supported short-term global experience that counts for credit towards a level 5 LAWS elective course.

Pre-2017 commencing studentsÌý

If you started yourÌýLLB(Hons) program (single or dual) before 2017, you must complete:Ìý

• all level 1, 2 and 3 Part A LAWS courses before applying for a UQ-supported short-term global experience that counts for credit towards a level 5 LAWS elective course.

Semester exchange

You may go on exchangeÌýand take level 5 flexible core law courses for credit only if:

• you have completed the required number of LAWS courses at 91ÇÑ×Ó.

If you did not follow the recommended study plan:

• you may need to rearrange your courses after returning
• your graduation may be delayed.

Courses you cannot take on exchange

Undergraduate law students cannot take Part A/Core courses on exchange, except for:

Your 4-year LLB (Hons) at 91ÇÑ×Ó meets the academic requirements forÌýadmission to the legal profession in your home country.

However, youÌýcannotÌýjoinÌýUQ Global ExperienceÌýprograms because of the rulesÌýset by the Board of Legal Education in your home country.
